CalCASA is pleased to start this new year off with our newly formatted, California CASA e-Bulletin. Each bulletin will continue to come out on a monthly basis and you will still be able to view and download each bulletin through www.calcasanet.org. (Please note CalCASAnet is currently undergoing a redesign and we will be able to launch the new website real soon) We hope you will find the e-Bulletin easier to access and forward to volunteers, board members, or others who are interested in the work we do. As always we are interested in any feedback you may have, please email comments or questions to jbrown@californiacasa.org.

1. JEN TROIA'S DEPARTURE

As many of you already know, Jen Troia's final day with CalCASA was January 18th, 2008. We are sad to see her leave but would like to wish her a temporary farewell as she heads off to California's Assembly Committee on Human Services. We look forward to opportunities to partner with Jen in the future as we continue to strive to better the lives of the children we serve. If you would like to keep in touch with Jen, her personal email address is, jentroia@yahoo.com.

2. ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR POSITION

CalCASA would like to announce the position of Associate Director (job announcement attached) currently open. We would like to encourage you to forward the attachment to anyone who may be interested. As Robin stated on the listserv, she is not comfortable posting a salary range at this time. We hope this will not deter anyone from bringing their experience and skills to CalCASA. Again, please encourage those you know to send their resume to: staff@californiacasa.org.

3. CYC & CASA COLLABORATION

The California CASA Association (CalCASA) and the California Youth Connection (CYC) have a long history of collaboration, taking this partnership to the next level Robin Allen, Executive Director of CalCASA and Tiffany Johnson, Associate Director for CYC have created a joint letter committing to future collaborations and further supporting each other's work.

This joint letter has been distributed to the CYC network (i.e. adult supporters, current and former foster youth and supporting organizations) via their Empowerment newsletter and website.

Let's take it even further and do our share to distribute this letter (attached) to all of your volunteers, board members, and any one who has an interest in our work.  If you have questions, concerns, or comments please contact Herbert Vanderhorst, hvanderhorst@californiacasa.org.

4. REQUESTING CACI SEARCH

We are very pleased that AB 369 was passed and went into effect January 1st 2008. The CASA network has anticipated accessing CACI when processing fingerprints of prospective advocates. Recently the Department of Justice (DOJ) officially released an information bulletin explaining the process, please be sure to review and save the attached document. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact CalCASA at 800-214-CASA (2272).
